In order to manufacture high tech devises and clean energy technology, engineers will need to ensure a reliable supply of critical materials. This will involve solutions to increase the supply of critical materials, or decrease their demand in industry. This multidisciplinary workshop will congregate the engineering community to discuss these challenges as well as potential engineering solutions. The workshop will feature networking opportunities, moderated panels and facilitated discussions which will be captured in a final report. Students are also encouraged to attend and highlight their relevant research in a poster session. This workshop is funded by the United Engineering Foundation.
What To Expect
- Keynote talks to outline the 3 different types of critical material sources produced in the US and how are each of them processed and the environmental concerns for extraction & recycling processing steps.
- Panel Discussions featuring industry experts to go in more detail on the engineering challenges on processing critical materials within the US.
- Student poster session to highlight academic research related to processing critical materials in the US.
- Network with invited attendees throughout the event with networking time during breaks, breakfast and lunch (food and beverages provided as part of the event).
- Facilitated discussion to outline potential engineering solutions to address the challenges identified and what are the next steps the engineering community can take?
